Summary

99Degrees is hiring a Trainer to help onboard, train, cross train, and support the advancement of 99Degrees’ sewing machine operators.

  • has apparel manufacturing knowledge and advanced industrial sewing skills on machines including single needle, overlock, coverstitch, flatlock, heat transfer, button hole and others.

Responsibilities

CANDIDATE TESTING

  • Trains applicants on machine safety. Administers safety test. Completes safety orientation checklist for all candidates. Reinforces health and safety orientation throughout training program.

  • Trains applicants on how to operate an industrial sewing machine, and provides instructions on  sewing skills test including exercise/drills.

  • Tests candidates to determine dexterity, machine control, level of experience, ability to follow directions, speed, and approach to learning.

  • Documents test results and reports documentation to hiring manager and human resources.

  • Makes hiring recommendations based on documented test results.

 

NEW HIRE AND EMPLOYEE TRAINING

  • Responsible for training 99Degrees Sewing Machine Operator training curriculum which includes:

    • Health and safety programs

    • Production and Quality Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

    • Quality standards, expectations, identifying quality issues, and quality tracking systems

    • Toyota Sewing System process

    • Company expectations and culture

    • Machine operations, exercises and drills

    • Fabric handling best practices

  • Ensures that training materials, tests and exercises, and documentation are prepared and ready ahead of each training. 

  • Completes training checklists for each employee.

  • Documents progress, challenges, and opportunities for additional training

  • Responsible for new hire trainees until they have completed training and are ready for production.

  • Make recommendations to improve training program.

  • Complies with and reinforces human resource compliance and health and safety policies and programs during testing and onboarding processes.

  • Represents 99Degrees company culture throughout testing and onboarding processes.

  • Supports 99Degree’s goal of being a great place to work by helping to identify strong candidates in both skills and culture fit.

  • Make suggestions to improve testing program.

QUALITY AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Helps train sewing machine operators when introducing new products and new operations.

  • Works with Quality and Production team supervisors to identify any in-line issues that require training. Support with problem solving and employee training as needed.  

  • Supports in-line inspection to identify areas for continued training and cross-training.

  • Champions our lean manufacturing/Toyota Sewing System transition and culture of continuous improvement and ideas generation.

  • Helps our Production and Quality teams ensure 100% compliance with production and quality SOPs

TEAM BUILDING AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Consistently leads by example. Motivates employees and supports their advancement.

  • Supports bi-annual evaluations of machine operators by providing documentation and feedback on training progress, skill level, growth, and areas for improvement. 

 

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years+ sewing, pattern making, tailoring, and alterations experience.

  • Knowledge of garment construction and product development process.

  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced multi lingual environment.

  • Ability to read and write in English in order to understand tech packs and customer construction notes.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8.5 hours per day.

Work Week and Salary:

  • M-F 7-3:30PM.

  • Salary is based on experience.
